Scrum Master

Job Description

Overview:

As a Scrum Master, you play a pivotal role in fostering agility and promoting the successful implementation of Scrum practices within the organization. Your responsibilities extend beyond the traditional boundaries outlined in the Scrum Guide, encompassing coaching, mentoring, and facilitating to ensure the effectiveness of the Scrum Team and the broader organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities:

 

  1. Establishing Scrum:

   – Drive the understanding and adoption of Scrum theory and practices within the Scrum Team and the organization.

   – Serve as a catalyst for creating awareness around Scrum principles and fostering a culture of agility.

 

  1. Coaching and Mentoring:

   – Coach and mentor Scrum Team members in self-management and cross-functionality.

   – Foster a focus on delivering high-value Increments that align with the Definition of Done.

   – Enable the team to overcome impediments and ensure smooth progress.

 

  1. Event Facilitation:

   – Ensure the successful execution of all Scrum events, maintaining a positive and productive atmosphere within defined timeboxes.

   – Facilitate collaborative and effective Scrum events for the Scrum Team.

 

  1. Product Owner Support:

   – Assist the Product Owner in effective Product Goal definition and management of the Product Backlog.

   – Provide guidance for clear and concise Product Backlog items.

   – Facilitate empirical product planning for a complex environment.

 

  1. Organization Support:

   – Lead, train, and coach the organization in Scrum adoption.

   – Instill an empirical approach for handling complex work among employees and stakeholders.

   – Remove barriers between stakeholders and Scrum Teams to enhance collaboration.

 

Qualifications:

– Demonstrated expertise in Scrum theory and practices.

– Strong coaching and mentoring skills.

– Excellent communication and facilitation abilities.

– Proven experience in leading and training organizations in Scrum adoption.

– Ability to identify and remove impediments to organizational and team progress.

– Commitment to continuous improvement and fostering a culture of agility.

 

The Scrum Master role is dynamic, requiring a unique blend of technical knowledge, soft skills, and a commitment to the principles of Scrum. Success in this role contributes significantly to the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the Scrum Team and the organization as a whole.

Experience Required: 

  1. Relevant experience of 1 year or more in Scrum, gained within a reputable organization. 
  2. Familiarity with project management software, such as JIRA, is also highly desirable. Proficiency in other tools commonly used in Agile and Scrum processes, such as Confluence , Kendis or Trello. 
  3. Any certifications along with practical experience such as Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) or Professional Scrum Master (PSM)
  4. Experience in other methodologies apart from Agile – is a good skill to have.
